Difference – Intermittent Fasting vs Starving by Akhila M

Food fuels the body and can serve as a source of comfort. While food is crucial for survival, you may occasionally want or need to fast.

Firstly we need to know the actual meaning of Fasting and Starving.

Intermittent Fasting:- Fast means just water. The idea is to shut down the digestive System for a specific period of time for some kind of health benefits or some kind of religious reason.

Starving: Is very different from fasting. Starving is the point where your body is actually shutting down and suffering because it does not have the fuel requirements that it needs in order to perform the basic functions of the body.

Intermittent fasting it’s a phenomenon that’s taken over the world . But if you look at the history of the world, the concept of intermittent fasting has been there, for some reason I think our parents were a generation that really promoted the idea of something like “Breakfast” and eating regular meals and all that. But scientifically speaking, that’s kind of recalibrated. There is a fasting mechanism built in the body and a feasting mechanism. If we go back to evolution that we need to think with our minds not based on what we’ve learned we have a lot of unlearning to do.

For example Breakfast was not designed by us, it was designed by “ Breakfast Cereal Companies” to make us have breakfast cereals. So, most people genuinely don’t feel hungry in the morning, an intermittent fasting is great, and it is the most inexpensive, cheapest and free way to attain not just great weight loss but to boost your immunity, inflammation, your skin, your hair and almost everything else along with improving your sleep. So people have put themselves in a box 16hours of fast/ 8 hours of eating time. All the benefits we’re talking about is something as good as 12 hours. The usual routine is dinner at 8:00 P.M followed by breakfast the next day at 8:00 A.M. We already fast for 12 hours.

Intermittent Fasting doesn’t have to suit everyone if it doesn’t suit you don’t fast. For some people what happens is their metabolism is different, some people are highly diabetic their sugar levels fluctuate but most people as kids grew up not wanting to eat breakfast who have been forced by parents over a period of time to eat breakfast and stuff because what happens after a good night of sleep the body is still in detoxification (Elimination mode). So we stop the elimination mode the moment we start eating. When we get hungry, the body shows you multiple signs of cravings such as drooling for something as little as a fry to an entire buffet. Every religion tells about the intermittent fasting as a way to maintain not just physical health but emotional and spiritual health as well.

Starving can be due to a lack of availability of food, no time to eat, delayed intake of food, or stress. Food is key to your survival. Food supplies your body with the energy and nutrients that it needs to function. Starving yourself means you deprive your body of the energy and nutrients it needs to perform.

When you starve yourself, your body goes into starvation mode similar to the Stone age. Instead of using energy to burn fat, your body senses there is scarcity, and it slows down your metabolism and preserves fat. Secondly, your body processes the meal consumed during starvation differently. Since your metabolism slows down because of starvation, your body stores the food as fat instead of using it. So you end up storing and gaining more weight.

So, do not starve yourself , Eat clean , Be healthy.
